A reflective reading of Kuwait’s political transition since 2022 and the gradual restoration of logic in public decision-making.
Allah created human beings with the ability to observe, then willed that they differ in that ability. Rarely today do we find someone who lets thought storm within them in search of a logic that explains what they have witnessed, so they may taste the pleasure of untying what had become complicated and obscure — especially amid discouraging conditions at the level of local politics. Yet explaining the logic behind such events represents a lifeline that carries us toward the shore of optimism: limited optimism, even humbler than modest. For in a transitional phase, whether economic or political, it is naïve to indulge in an optimistic outlook without relying on a promising vision built on real objectives, achieved through effective strategies. Indeed, “some speech is merely speech.” Perhaps our awareness of this helped reduce frustration significantly, at a time when signs began to appear that we were entering a path toward restoring the dignity of logic so that logic may once again be logic.
In January 2022, we were honored to accept an invitation for an interview with “Thmanyah.” The distinguished media figure Abdulrahman Abu Maleh asked us then about the possibility of achieving a Kuwaiti economic vision. Based on our answers during the discussion, he suggested that an economic vision — whatever its source — could not be achieved. We answered in the negative: a promising vision may indeed be achievable, pointing to our “hope in the political leadership to enter deeply into this file.” Perhaps the background of that belief came from the illogical nature of the political and economic reality at the time. Economic reform first requires restoring the dignity of “logic” to its natural state, and that is something the output of an illogical political environment cannot achieve.
We may now realize that the day on which His Highness the Crown Prince at the time delivered a speech on behalf of His Highness the Amir in June 2022 represented the beginning of the path toward “restoring the dignity of logic.” We may also realize that the path is still in its early stages and has not yet ended. After a period in which most decisions were formed as reactions rather than actions, we now find that this journey is witnessing the phenomenon of actions, in addition to reactions to actions. If they are not more logical than they once were, they are certainly less illogical than before. What that logic has indicated since the beginning of the journey is that, at every stage we pass through, infrastructure is being laid for the stage that follows. What we also perceive in that logic is that it gives revolutionary preference to the public interest over private interest, in a way that makes it difficult for parts to benefit at the expense of the whole.
Regardless of the details of the stages since the journey began, and regardless of their partial merits and mistakes, and while recalling the state of stagnation that once marked state institutions and their dealings across various sectors, we infer from the presence of expert silence — which is more eloquent than speech, for “the noble person preserves the affection of a moment” — that they recognize the usefulness of that logic at the macro level, and are awaiting exceptional developments aligned with their aspirations in their fields of specialization. We also witness the relative ability of that logic to weaken public belief in those who raise their voices with a word of truth by which falsehood is intended. Likewise, the media appearance of beneficiaries of previous phases directing explicit criticism is itself evidence that this logic has reached new stages in empowering itself.
What we are experiencing today is the emergence of that logic in its early stages. Gradually, little by little, it will become capable of changing how public opinion reads a member of the National Assembly: not as a deputy who feels no shame in standing before a law or a “populist” speech merely to strengthen an electoral balance, but as one who takes pride in protecting the public interest. The repeated reactions to hesitant positions — such as political firmness — are clear evidence that the empowerment of this logic has become visible to all, as though the tongue of our conscience were proclaiming: “Do not wrong the bow; give the bow to its maker.”
The rules of the game have changed, gentlemen. The pawn no longer has value, and the tools that were useful in the past will no longer achieve their purpose today. Despite some stumbles in partial aims, the overall purpose is moving according to a strategy grounded in a logic closer to enabling its own usefulness, and too elevated to be affected by mere stumbles.
O Allah, ordain for this nation a matter of right guidance.
Abdullah Al-Salloum

How does disciplined public reasoning and political transition affect Kuwait?
Its effect appears in how costs, incentives, and resources are managed, and in Kuwait's ability to turn decisions into sustainable value. The direct context is a reflective reading of Kuwait’s political transition since 2022 and the gradual restoration of logic in public decision-making.
Why is living standards and productivity connected to the factor of cost?
Living standards cannot remain stable without real productivity, because welfare funded externally or by a depleting resource remains vulnerable. This makes cost an important test that separates temporary treatment from capacity that can endure.
Why is public debate connected to the factor of cost?
Debate supports reform when it seeks evidence and results; it obstructs reform when it becomes accusation, denial, or short-term gain. This makes cost an important test that separates temporary treatment from capacity that can endure.
Why is rentier culture connected to the factor of cost?
Rentier culture links gains to the state more than to production, making reform look like a threat rather than a necessary transition. This makes cost an important test that separates temporary treatment from capacity that can endure.
